Grid Conveyors
Grid conveyors are robust and versatile conveying systems widely used in food-processing applications, including confectionery, meat, fish, and vegetable handling. The conveyor belt consists of a metal wire grid supported on plastic wear rails or support rollers and driven by a shaft with polyamide sprockets. Belt tension is adjusted via a dedicated tensioning section, ensuring stable operation and consistent tracking.
Process Capability and Operating Range
A key advantage of grid conveyors is their ability to operate under extreme temperature conditions. They are suitable for use in freezing chambers at temperatures down to –35 °C as well as in high-temperature processes up to +200 °C, such as drying, baking, and cooking. This makes grid conveyors ideal for applications requiring direct heat exposure or intensive thermal processing.
Grid conveyors can be designed for straight, curved, inclined, or spiral layouts, allowing efficient product flow and optimal integration into complex production lines and space-restricted facilities.
Grid Design and Selection
A wide range of grid types is available to address different technological and transport requirements. Grid selection is based on process parameters and operating conditions, including:
-
Product characteristics
-
Required throughput and capacity
-
Product placement method on the belt
-
Operating environment and cleaning regime
-
Grid width
-
Type of thermal or mechanical processing
Grids are classified according to:
-
Material grade (including food-grade stainless steel)
-
Weaving type
-
Degree of openness
-
Edge design
-
Conveyor path geometry
Wire diameter, grid pitch, and locking configuration are selected based on load, conveyor length, and mechanical requirements. In practice, wire diameter is specified with a safety margin to ensure long service life and reliable continuous operation.
Hygienic and Food-Grade Design
Grid conveyors are designed in accordance with hygienic design principles. The open belt structure allows excellent drainage, effective cleaning, and visual inspection, supporting high sanitation standards. Materials are selected for corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, and compatibility with food-processing and washdown environments.
Key Advantages
-
High mechanical reliability and long service life
-
Open structure for effective cleaning and sanitation
-
Wide operating temperature range
-
Energy-efficient operation
-
High hygiene level
-
Resistance to cleaning chemicals and process media
